This is the tale of a fierce kitten living on a cemetery in Istanbul. I named her Cemetery Kitten because she is a kitten and the cemetery is her home. The graveyard - named Sur Dibi Mezarlıği - is right outside the ancient Byzantine town wall. It is an old site of the Ottoman Empire, so the modern Turkish people who are in love with Ataturk, ignore the place diligently. But they know Cemetery Kitten and Kitten also knows them well.
I spent an hour of her life with Kitten, and would have loved to return to continue the story, but Istanbul is far from where I live. As you can see, Cemetery Kitten was injured badly on her left foreleg but the wound is healing well and she could even jump again. It is a very brave kitten.
When I was petting Cemetery Kitten she made grumpy sounds like “go away!” and “no, not me!” but kept waiting for more petting.
This is the favourite place of Cemetery Kitten, on a pedestal, just at the entrance of the cemetery. When she’s fully grown one day she will be a beautiful sphinx at this place.
Don’t worry, Cemetery Kitten was not hungry. She ignored my cookies (I know, cookies don’t make good cat food) but if she was hungry she would have eaten them.
Cemetery Kitten takes dental hygiene very seriously.
Sometimes Cemetery Kitten has a visitor, but this cat (you can see its ears below in the image) sneaked up to her from behind to hurt her. Cemetery Kitten reacted to the unfair attack with arching her back and awesome hissing which seemed way more cute than deterrent to me. Because Kitten was so brave I told the evil cat to leave the graveyard. It was quite confused why I took part in this fight, but decided to leave the giant (me about 1,95 m tall) and the kitten (about 15 cm not tall after all).
Cemetery Kitten likes tomb stones so much that she hugs them. Lucky, those dead people in their graves.
Sometimes Cemetery Kitten sits in front of a tomb stone, just staring, like she is talking to the deceased.
Cemetery Kitten can also pose very well. She will be a good model when she is grown up.
Here is the beautiful cemetery and the town wall. Cemetery Kitten is not in this picture. She was jumping happily between gravestones when I took this one. I thought about seating her on a gravestone for a moment, to put some more cuteness in the picture, but no, Kitten was happy where she was. Just imagine she would sit there and pose.
Some of the gravestones look like mushrooms, but this one is actually a turban. Cemetery Kitten loves sitting on turban mushrooms and to enjoy the view.
Workout and training is important for little kitten to keep in form, even on cemeteries. Here she is wearing a Zorro mask.
Cemetery Kitten is just cute and lovely. She is a Tortoiseshell cat. We call them “Glückskatze” = fortune cat in Germany. Und es war wirklich Glück, dass ich sie gefunden habe.
