Once upon a time there was a dear little girl who was loved by everyone who looked at her, but most of all by her grandmother, and there was nothing that she would not have given to the child. Once she gave her a little riding hood of red velvet, which suited her so well that she would never wear anything else; so she was always called Little Red Riding Hood.
But because an evil wolf walked abroad in the gloomy forest, where the grandmother lived, she gave her a muzzle-loader as well. Little Red Riding Hood became so much fond of her new gun that she never left home without it anymore. Many men would have loved to marry Little Red Riding Hood because of her beauty and her virtue but everyone asking for her hand was watching into the two barrels of her pistol. And since there is no more brave menfolk in our time - Little Red Riding Hood is still taking the wine alone to her grandmother - in the hope of meeting the wicked wolf finally one day!
